Our
dad used to ponder that over 200 years after Benjamin Franklin tinkered
with and wore spectacles to sharpen his vision, we humans are still
wearing glasses - of varied sizes, materials, shapes of frames and
formulae for the lenses. 'Shouldn't we have come up with some new and
improved invention by now?' he asked. I look around the library where
more than half of the patrons and staff are wearing lenses perched upon
our noses, earpieces clasping our tender ears, and wonder the same.
